TO THE SUPPORT COMMUNITY: I AM TYPING IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE IT'S HARD FOR ME TO SEE.MY SON BOUGHT A TOSHIBA SATELLITE C55Dt-A FOR ME FOR CHRISTMAS. ORIGINAL BUILD WINDOWS 8.1 AND IT WORKED GREAT. FOR SOME REASON, I THOUGHT I WAS SUPPOSED TO UPDATE WHENEVER MICROSOFT ROLLED OUT A NEW VERSION.I THOUGHT IT WAS STANDARD PROCEDURE.
I'VE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE EVER SINCE. MY LAPTOP'S BUILT-IN EMAIL AND CALANDER NO LONGER FUNCTION. I NOW UNDERSTAND THAT BECAUSE I CHOSE TO UPDATE TO WINDOWS 10,MY LAPTOP IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY WITH TOSHIBA.
AND BECAUSE I ALLOWED TECHS TO HAVE 'REMOTE CONTROL' OF MY LAPTOP, THERE'S NO TELLING WHAT I'VE GOT. A TECH ALSO DID AN UPDATE OR REDO OF WINDOWS 10. WHEN THE 2ND TECH WANTED TO DO ANOTHER REDO, ISAID NO. I DO NOTICE THAT EVEN THOUGH I AM THE ONLY USER, I HAVE ONE SECTION UNDER USERS CALLED NANA (with files) AND THE OTHER IS CALLED LoisR57 (with files).
I TRIED TO UPDATE CHROME AND GOT ERROR MESSAGE 4- 0x80070005. I LOOKED IT UP ON WIKI-PEDIA ANDDOWNLOAD A PROGRAM CALLED TECH UTILITIES, AND AFTER A SCAN, THE RESULTS WERE 2,866 ISSUES. I DID NOT CLICK ON 'FIX'. I AM A NOVICE LEVEL USER AND ABOUT AT MY WITS END. THIS LAPTOP IS MY ONLY 'WINDOW TO THE WORLD' AS I AM A DISABLED SENIOR. I WOULD SINCERELYAPPRECIATE ANY HELP. LOIS RENEESPECS ARE AS FOLLOWS:WINDOWS 10 HOME, Manufacturer TOSHIBA, MODEL C55Dt5-A, Processor AMD E1-1200 APU with Radeon (TM) Graphics1.40 GHz, Installed memory RAM 6.0 GB (5.57 GB usable), System Type 64-bit OS x64-based processor, Touch support with10 Touch Points.

In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to installother software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. A Microsoft Tech helped me to resolve several issues. I had set Defrag, windows update and Defender set to automatic tasks awhile ago.
So no issues there.I will do a scan disk error check in the near future.I am still trying to figure out why my mail app will not sync with my outlook.com mail.I would like to know if there is an equivalent to the online 'fix' for your system that Microsoft used to have. I can't remember what it was called.
But it somehow gave a thorough system check-up, free and online. I just honestly don't like having tolet a stranger take complete control of my pc every time I have an issue, unless it's really necessary. It just seems such an invasion of privacy. (not that I have anything to hide).
But, seriously, for just a routine system check, something online andautomatic would be a lot more convenient and less time and resource consuming, I would think. But anyhow, you all say Defender is enough, so I am hoping so. That's it for now. Thanks, Lois. Hi,Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community.I understand your concern and will guide you in the right direction.1. NO VIRUSES FOUND. BUT SEVERAL LINES OF; SCAN ERROR. (OVER A PERIOD OF ABOUT 4 HOURS) IS THIS SOMETHING THAT A MS-TECH WOULD BE WILLING TO TAKE A LOOK AT, AND AT LEAST GIVE ME AN INTERPRETATION? I'm sorry I cannnot help you, but I'd like to share my concern about Tech-Utilities. If you want to 'clean it' out., do you meanUninstall Tech-utilities? (Have you some complaint with them? Or is 'clean out' something else? Most of us are 'unknowing non-techies'!
Luckily, I have no mjor problem a the moment; I am not sure whether T-U cleared anything undesirable out, but I'd like to have more faith in them. They made avery hard sell, and thenfailed to respond to inquiries and misgivings; but perhaps their software is good.
That is what I am trying to judge from the reports of the community.i hope someone will offer you the solution you need. Sidney Whitaker. REDEMPTION of Tech-Utilities? 'Hirammaxim' expresses a sincere and natural reaction-a most useful warning to others, about 'helpful-looking' websites. That is just how I was treated, and how I felt-at first. I yielded to the same ploy, out of weakness. After nearly four hours of rather inefficient CHAT-dulySAVED as a record, I announced that I had had enough, and wanted to cancel my purchase-paid for with a Lloyds credit card.
(I understood that such on-line purchases could be cancelled within 14 days.)I reported my cancellation to the Credit Card manager, and WAS DELIGHTED and suprised to get my £90 refunded, aftera second notice to Tech-Utilities, who sent me the due notification, confirmed in my Card account.Whether their package is effective for certain computer afflictions, I do not know. It proved not to be necessary for mine-which proved to be only the consequence of a changed password.(A cheaper program of theirs: CLNTRep, which I have kept, MAY be useful: it detects 'errors' in a scan, and removes them, without doing any harm, as far as I can see).So I personally modify my criticism of Tech-Utilities, and only protest at their hard-sell style, and one incompetent agent. Sidney Whitaker. Thankyou for your reply i should do the same and get my 38 pound back, i have uninstalled the damn programme anyway from my pc so it looks like my 38 pound had well and truly gone to the great tech utilities xmas fund for 2018 but i can live with thati will just be happy telling people try be aware of such a company and other places like them. The thing which got my goat up was the fact that they have put a stop on my line when i contact them it comes up no operatives are available every time i do itso theyve got me down as a trouble causer and avoid speaking to me Bastards and that is being mild am gonna take every opportunity to give them HELL ha ha.
